Meet Yue, Our Newest Sparkler!

Common Spark is excited to welcome Yue Shen as our newest addition to the Sparkler Team, where you’ll find her jumping into meetings, making sense of policy discussions, and running between ideas, projects and the occasional actual run.

Yue brings to Common Spark a background in clean energy policy, campaigns, and coalition building. Over the last five years, she has worked at the intersection of environmental justice and energy policy in California, supporting frontline communities in identifying community priorities and negotiating meaningful commitments from policymakers and developers. Her work spans regulatory advocacy, policy analysis and translating dense technical and political processes into clear strategies for advocates and community organizations.

Yue approaches her work with patience and rigor, believing that the strongest outcomes happen when technical policy decisions are grounded in the lived experiences, needs and priorities of the people most directly affected by them.

To get to know Yue, we asked a few sparkly questions…

What brought you to Common Spark?

The commitment to doing rigorous, technically grounded work in the energy space, without ever losing sight of the equity and community dimensions that make that work matter.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

I am looking forward to intentional growth. This year, I took some risks to act on the clarity I have gained about the direction I want to grow in and the people I want to learn from. Work occupies a meaningful part of my life, and I want to do it in a way that is both grounded in expertise and aligned with my values. I am excited about the opportunities to dive into energy policy and technical concepts while continuing to bridge communities, advocates, and the complex systems shaping our energy future.

What does a just clean energy future mean to you?

A just clean energy future means moving away from a system where major energy decisions are made far from the people who feel their impacts most. To me, justice means communities have access to clear information, trusted technical support and the time and resources to shape projects before key decisions are already locked in. It also means that cleaner energy should translate into lower bills, healthier homes, and tangible investments that stay rooted in the communities most affected by our current energy system.

What song/album instantly puts you in a good mood?

Blonde by Frank Ocean

What is your snack of choice?

I am always in the mood for simply salted chips, sour gummy worms, or dried mangoes

Common Spark Consulting not only works externally with our clients and partners, but we also strive to work inwardly, recognizing that we must internalize the care, thoughtfulness, and intention we hope to represent as individuals and an organization. The Thought Library is where we share our ideas and thoughts, where we are at right now, on topics and issues that we hope will spark conversation for a brighter, more inclusive energy future.
